In the third quarter of 2021, the top five carpooling and ridesharing apps on the iOS platform in Africa demonstrated varied performance trends. Here, we delve into the weekly downloads and active user metrics for these apps, with data sourced from Sensor Tower.

Bolt: Request a Ride, published by BOLT TECHNOLOGY OU, showed a consistent increase in weekly downloads. Starting from approximately 24.7K downloads in late June, the app peaked at around 28.2K by the end of September. The number of weekly active users also saw a general upward trend, rising from about 226K in late June to 250K by the end of the quarter.

inDrive. Save on city rides, from SUOL INNOVATIONS LTD, experienced growth in both downloads and active users. Weekly downloads climbed from around 15.9K in late June to 21.4K by the end of September. Active users increased from approximately 52.9K to nearly 70K during the same period.

Uber - Request a ride, developed by Uber Technologies, Inc., maintained steady weekly downloads throughout the quarter, ranging from 17.7K to 20K. The weekly active users fluctuated slightly but remained robust, starting at around 517K in late June and ending at approximately 516K by September's close.

DiDi Rider: Affordable rides, published by DiDi, showed significant growth in downloads and active users. Downloads surged from about 3.5K in late June to 20.9K by the end of September. Active users followed a similar trend, increasing from 10.7K to 44.8K over the quarter.

Careem – rides, food & more, from Careem, saw modest increases in both downloads and active users. Weekly downloads hovered around 4K throughout the quarter, while active users grew from approximately 57.5K in mid-July to about 72.1K by late September.
